Fostering Brittanys is both challenging and rewarding. When the dog first comes from a shelter the may not show its true character due to stress and change. In a foster home, you begin to see the dog demonstrate their true personality and learn to trust again. The dogs need a consistent schedule and often require training, such as housetraining, heeling on leash, etc. The number of available foster homes limits the number of dogs we can rescue, so we are always in need of more foster homes---where a rescue dog can be evaluated, nurtured, and live until adopted.

Home visits are an opportunity for us to check several things with the adoption of the rescue Brittany. It gives us a chance to get a more personal feel for the adoptive family and for what they put on their application. Sometimes a home visit is a good opportunity to clear up any questions about something on the adoption application. And it gives the applicant a chance to ask questions and possibly meet a Brittany if they haven’t met one before.

Dogs often need a ride from the shelter to foster care or from foster care to their new home. Sometimes we are called by people who have found a dog or own the dog asking us to come get the dog right away. If you volunteer to transport, but can’t do it when you are contacted, just say no, and you will be asked another time. We can also use help from folks that want to coordinate transports as they take a lot of time and energy to get everything planned and executed.
